Hi to all Last Exiters --
Wow. I had not idea this tribe existed and I'm damn happy to find it. I discovered the last exit when I was 16/17 as a high school student just learning to play chess. I was a fixture in that place, playing chess with the occasional break to play video games (donkey kong) and have a 25 cent hot dog and coke at Arnold's. At the exit I remember a lawyer named Mike, a great kid named Darwin, a taxi driver named Sid, a lovely student from Lakeside named Kate, a sand bagging middle aged chess playing woman also I think named Kate, in addition to some great chess players like Ken Tompkins. It was Awesome! I played 'til midnight on the weekends.
Looking back, over the years, I think fondly of the food and drink. I drank constant comet tea in those old beat up jugs, and steamed milk with honey and nutmeg. I ate bagels with cream cheese, toasted cheese sandwhiches with sprouts, and a delicious vegetarian sandwhich, but I can't remember what all was on it. I think it had cucumbers, lettuce, tomato, cheese....but I just can't remember. Does anyone remember what was on the sandwhich? I'd be eternally grateful because I want to recreate it again as a homage to a place that was incredible and holds a special, irreplaceable, place in my heart. Thanks.
Mike

Fri, September 18, 2009 - 8:13 AMHi Mike,
As fantastically awesome as this tribe has been, it's activity has dwindled substantially as of late. Following the tides of social networking sites, there's a newer group for the Exit over on Facebook. It has a much better chance of longevity than this one. Search and you will find it. There's a fantastic assortment of Exiteer portraits by Eddie Walker there too. Bet you'll see an pic of someone you know. See you there!
